“A song comes up and suddenly you jump onto my head again… They say that sights, sounds and smells can evoke emotionally charged memories. Memories I admit I’ve been so long attached to, and didn’t seem to fade over time.” There … Continue reading

Hi everyone, this post is about the influence that music has in our lives and how it brings people together. By the way, in case you are wondering… yes, in the photo above I´m with The Killers!
Music is the art of sounds that conveys emotions through different notes. It expresses ideas and emotions in significant forms through the elements of rhythm, melody, harmony, and color.
According to the New National Dictionary, music means “Art of combining sounds or sequences of notes into harmonious patterns pleasing to the ear and satisfying to the emotions; melody”.
Said this, from my own experience, music is not only able to bring me back to many different moments of my life, it also has a big impact in how I feel at present. When I am upset, if I listen to “happy” music brings me joy, “sad” songs bring me melancholy, some others, make my whole body dance, and the list of emotions that provides me goes on and on. That´s why for me, Music is my life!
And thats the whole beauty of it, there are as many types of rhythms as kinds of people in this world, that variety made and will still make history.
If you want to know how music affects and benefits the brain, please read this blog post written by Belle Beth Cooper. It´s amazing how well she explains the different types connection music makes with our brains.
I have met many people that just weren´t big into music, but that does not mean they don´t like it… everyone does, it just doesn´t take a big part of their lives, and then…there are some freaks like me or like Friedrich Nietzsche that think that “Without music, life would be a mistake”
Some classify people by having a good, or a bad ear. I fully believe it does not depend on having it good or bad, but on our exposure to music. It´s exactly like coordination, it can be improved with practice.
If we are consantly listening to music and practising it, we will keep getting better and better. Believe it or not everyone is capable of creating music, it only relies on our perseverance and effort. Furthermore, it is just like everything in life.
I put myself as an example, I always loved music, but I have never thought I could be able to play any instrument. For me, it was way to difficult and I always considered I didn´t have the potential. Until I came across one amazing person in my life, that made me fully believe in myself and in my full potential, I thought I didn´t have… He helped me believe that: I can do anything I want, and since… I think I have. I´ve been playing the Ukelele for the last year and a half and, after that, I started playing percussion in a Samba Band. I am not Jake Shimabukuro on the uke, but I really enjoy myself with it.
So, remember this, everyone is capable of doing and creating amazing things in life!
I hope you enjoyed this post and made you want to grab and instrument or put on your favourite tunes!
